Reiki is a type of energy healing that was developed in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui. A reiki practitioner will use light touch which aims to change and balance the energy fields in and around your body. Reiki is a Japanese healing art that was developed by Dr Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. It is pronounced ray-key. You might also hear it called Reiki energy, Usui system of Reiki and therapeutic touch.
A Reiki practitioner aims to change and balance the energy fields in and around your body to help on a physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual level. Reiki Practitioners are simply channels for the life force/earth energy. We are all made of this energy. Sometimes when we get tired or ill we can help self-recovery with an additional boost of energy. A Reiki Practitioner acts as a channel, offering you additional energy to assist the self-healing process. Caring is the most important quality a Reiki Practitioner needs and it is this intent that counts most when channelling reiki.
Consciously sending out loving thoughts to another human being is sending out the healing energy. The term hands on healing is simply a more direct way to channel the life force energy and therefore the benefits to the recipient are usually stronger and can be more effective and can often be felt sooner.

It is thought Reiki helps you to feel deeply relaxed, help you cope with difficult situations, relieve emotional stress and tension, help to improve overall wellbeing.
Many people use a complementary therapy such as Reiki for support during Cancer treatment, some people with cancer say they feel better after using therapies such as Reiki. Studies show that this is often because a therapist spends time with the person, and touches them. With the stress of hospitals and treatment, it can be very relaxing when receiving a Reiki treatment in a calm setting. Reiki is sometimes used in palliative care, especially in hospices.
Some people say that Reiki has helped to control side effects of their cancer treatments, such as pain, anxiety and sickness. They also say that it helps them cope better with their cancer and its treatment. But it’s important to bear in mind that while Reiki may help you to cope with your symptoms or side effects, it is not able to treat cancer.

A typical Reiki Treatment
Reiki is offered with you lying down or sitting in a chair, and create a sense of calmness and peace, with relaxing, soothing music playing. It is recommended patients wear loose comfortable clothing.
Reiki healing can help to address anxiety or recover from an injury, or to be more spiritually and emotional enlightened. A short consultation will be undertaken, discussing your goals, health issues or challenges. Once you are comfortable, hands are placed over the body to find out what areas need the most healing, beginning at the head and ending at the feet.
The hand-placement portion of the session is usually the next step, which also requires the most time. Hands are lightly placed over different areas of the patient’s body, including the head, torso, knees and feet, to transfer energy and encourage healing and inner-peace.
Patients are left feeling much more centred and calm. Some have described the experience as a feeling of spiritual warmth, or even radiance, and feel relaxed. A typical treatment is an hour.
Distance Reiki Healing
Reiki is a technique within the system of Reiki that enables you to give a Reiki session beyond the limitations of time and space. It expands the practitioner's ability to transmit spiritual energy beyond physical touch.
Distance Reiki works according to the energy principle, and that we are all connected, as we are all energy matter and part of a larger whole. As such, invoking this law during a distance Reiki session allows the practitioner to link an object to the energy field of the recipient. I typically use the recipient's photo along with a healing crystal.
Clients I work with often relay the same Reiki benefits back to me after a session, as an in person treatment. They report feelings of relaxation, happiness, empowerment, ease and relief from pain. My distance Reiki clients will also have the same amount of benefit as those whom I work with in person. And sometimes, their personal experiences feel even more powerful to them, because they were not physically present with me, as it can feel more comfortable for them.

I practice self healing with Reiki, it's the reason I took up complementary therapies, Initially to help my self, and my family as we have had some difficult family health issues. I then qualified as a reiki practitioner and Reflexologist. I love it so much as I can now support others.....namaste.
